The care and support provide by family and friends can make a huge difference to the lives of people with visual impairments. The role of carers is increasingly being highlighted and the word carers is now used a lot, although the family and friends of people with visual impairments don’t often use it to describe themselves. However if a husband, wife, partner, brother, sister, mother, father or friend loses their sight; there is an impact on the people round about. The experience of losing sight can be a slow deterioration or it sometimes is sudden and dramatic. No matter how it happens or when it happens there are always questions and more often than not there are concerns, worries and uncertainty about how to cope.
