Being diagnosed with a visual impairment can be devastating news for people and their family and friends.  There can be many questions and concerns and you if you are attending Gartnavel Hospital , you can find us in the Eye Department (Room 8) across from the optometrist area.  If you attend another hospital in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area, you can be referred by the medical staff or phone us on 0141 211 6753.

At an information event:

The following information sessions are available to people with visual impairments, friends and family or anyone who would like to find out more about visual impairment and the range of support available locally. These are “drop in” session, usually over a 2 or 3 hour period and provide the opportunity to meet with other people with visual impairments in the area and representatives from local support services. A range of equipment to support independent living is also on display for people to try. Family members and friends are also provided with the opportunity to try simulation glasses to help increase understanding of eye conditions.

The Community Support Team will be available throughout the sessions to provide information, demonstrate equipment and have a chat over tea, coffee and biscuits. If you would like to attend any of the information sessions detailed below, please phone the team to book a place on 0141 332 4632.

At a group:

There are a number of groups which give people an opportunity to meet over a period of time and find out more than they can in one session. Our support page gives more information on our groups.
